The WORLD4UA.ONLINE project is an interactive map that contains all the necessary information about the conditions of departure and residence abroad for people who were forced to leave Ukraine. A full-scale invasion of Ukraine is forcing many Ukrainians to leave their homes, places of residence and relocate to other cities and even countries. The main reason for the mass resettlement of citizens from Ukraine was the desire to save their health and lives, as well as their relatives. Therefore, escaping from hostilities, they acquired a new status and became migrants.
The intensification of migration processes leads to the solution of a number of problems. One of them is that when people go abroad, it is quite difficult for people to find all the information about their new location, and because of this the task is to create a universal tool that everyone could use.
The idea of the project was to concentrate all the necessary information on one resource. After all, in such a difficult time, it is very difficult to focus and dive into the information space in search of something really useful.
The team of developers – enthusiasts and students of the Department of Information Technology and Software Engineering under the leadership of the Head of the Department – at each step of development made only such decisions that will allow the fastest launch of the project.
The work was not easy, because the developers already had experience in developing software of such functionality, but the implementation of a real project – no. So the path of project development for the team turned out to be the most difficult, but the result was worth it.
The peculiarity of this project is the speed and free of its implementation, because its fundamental purpose was to help their own compatriots.
We initially evaluated both, Cloud and a few DeCloud providers, some of them were providing nearly free resources. As a result of testing, significant shortcomings were revealed – some needed significant payment for an SSL certificate, a long time to load the site, the lack of an adequate policy to counter-attacks, difficult to use and manage. After all these learnings of the alternatives, StackOS was a clear winner and we decided to use StackOS.
Why have we chosen StackOS? Firstly our idea was to make our site on new technologies in Web3.0, that is why the creator of the idea – Maksym Stotskyi, decided to use StackOS. They allow decentralized deployment and provides us with an everlasting, trustless, and secure deployment engine.
We analyzed many traditional cloud services, even from Ukraine. Yes, they provide similar price like StackOS, but we need a lot of DevOps resources to use them. With StackOS it’s a lot cheaper than deploying on traditional cloud services + don’t need a huge DevOps team to manage the deployment and the performance. And of course, our deployment was super easy because we containerized our application in 5 minutes and after focused only on improvement of our site. Comparing StackOS with the alternative DeCloud solutions, its’ ease of use and quick startup time made our decision very easy.
It was necessary to find a platform for deployment that would meet the basic requirements: reliability, speed, minimum price, deployment speed and changes in site elements.
The team's fears were about the latter. Thanks to the well-described manuals and the round-the-clock support of the StackOS team, it turned out that the deployment process took minimal time. Thanks to the use of docker images, the elements of the site can be replaced in one click. We have the optimal loading time of the site when using the minimum configuration parameters (and hence the minimum cost). We are currently recording an effective repulse of attacks, a constant load on the site by real users and an increase in the number of unique events. And all these have been handled by StackOS very elegantly. It has made it quite effortless on our side.
In conclusion:
Till date, more than 6 million people have left Ukraine. Some went to their acquaintances and relatives, and some found themselves on the threshold of an unknown country and strangers. Therefore, the use of this interactive map allows minimizing the negative consequences of migration of the population of Ukraine, as well as to mitigate the impact of threats and dangers on the future. In our effort to serve the people in need, we are glad to find a partner like StackOS to enable us to make such an impact.
